Class Overview
The primary focus of this class is to learn about the fundamental aspects of theatre performance through ensemble building. Students will study performance in relation to critical thinking, problem-solving, focus, teamwork, and the technical aspects of theatre. Students will be introduced to basic theatre terms and script analysis. This class is a prerequisite for Theatre II/III and Theatre IV.
Learning Objectives
1. The learner will use non-verbal expression to illustrate how human emotion affects the body and is conveyed through the body.
2. The learner will apply vocal elements of volume, pitch, rate, tone, articulation, and vocal expression.
3. The learner will use improvisation and acting skills, such as observation, concentration, and characterization in a variety of theatre exercises.
4. The learner will analyze informal or formal theatre productions in terms of the emotions or thoughts they evoke, characters, settings, and events.
5. The learner will illustrate appropriate theatre etiquette as a member of an audience, as a performer, and as a technician.
6. The learner will use acting conventions, such as stage presence, subtext, style, and ensemble work, to perform formal or informal works.
7. The learner will exemplify history, culture, geography, economics, civics, and government from a global perspective through the creation of theatrical works.
